Hartland High School
South Lyon High School
Hartland Varsity Boys Basketball continued its late season playoff surge by beating South Lyon 57-55 last night to capture their first district title since 2011 and only their third district title ever in class-A.
The Eagles once again displayed their “never-say-die” attitude by crawling back after going down 12-0 to start the game.
By the end of the first quarter, the Eagles had cut South Lyon’s lead to 9, and after Grant Prinzing’s three-pointer at the half-time buzzer, the Eagles had climbed back to within 4 (27-31).
The second half was hard fought by both sides, as evidenced by the many lead changes, including four within the last two minutes. In the waning seconds, the only question that remained was which side was going to make the big play.
With 8 seconds left, the Eagles provided the answer to that question. Down by a point, the Eagles worked the ball as the final seconds ticked away. Miles McDonald found Carson Miller cutting to the basket. Just as Miller appeared to be trapped and headed out of bounds he slung an improbable pass to Konlan Paul at the three point line. Paul hit the shot to put the Eagles up 2, and after eight seconds of defense, Hartland had their district title. Paul led the Eagles with 20 points, Mitch Brown added 10, and Miles McDonald 9.
The Eagles proceed to the Regional Semifinals to play North Farmington on Monday, March 14 at West Bloomfield High School at 5:30pm. Go TEAM!
