HARTLAND — The Hartland and Howell softball teams split a doubleheader on Wednesday.
The Highlanders took the first game, 11-0, while Hartland got revenge in the second, 15-8.
Howell’s Erin Utter allowed three hits in seven innings in game one. Veronica Pezzoni, Emily Pawleski and Amy Jarrett combined for nine hits and five RBIs. Hartland’s Madelin Skene took the loss, yielding seven runs in 5 1/3 innings while walking one and striking out four.
Heather Wilkin hit a two-run homer for Hartland in the second game to establish the early lead. She was followed up by a three-run homer from Skene, who pitched again and recorded the win. The two homers set the tone for Hartland, which plated 12 runs in the first three innings.
Hartland finished game two with 15 hits, a stark contrast from the first contest.
Hartland (1-1) next plays on Friday at Walled Lake Central while Howell (1-1) goes to Walled Lake Northern.
