HARTLAND — Brighton was in third place in Division 1 going into the final round, but posted a score of 315.30 to finish with a winning score of 780.82.
The Bulldogs won by 1.04 points over Grandville, last year’s state Division 1 runner-up. Defending state champion Rochester was seventh.
“We went into the day with the goal of being in the top three,” Brighton coach Christina Wilson said. “Our focus was on getting the little victories, things like sticking tucks, jumps and stunts. We knew that if we collected all of the little victories, that it would lead us to our ultimate goal of top three.”
Hartland finished third in Division 1 with a score of 774.14. Howell was 10th with a score of 692.04.
Allen Park, the state Division 2 runner-up last season, had the best score of the day, winning Division 2 with a score of 781.10.
Brighton will host the final KLAA West meet at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
