Congratulations to Hartland’s JV Girls team, who placed third in the JV State Bowling Team Championships Division 1 held Sunday, February 19. The individual competition was held on Saturday.
Brianna Vincent, Brittany Salyers, Jess Callaghan, Rebecca Paris, Natalie Fisher and Taylor Hutchinson from the Girls JV team represented Hartland, coached by Bob Brewer and Mark McClure. The team competition consisted of 10 baker games, and the top eight teams moved on to bracket play. Hartland bowled well in the qualifying round and was the fifth seed.
Bracket play consisted of two baker games, and the team with the highest pin count moved on. Hartland defeated Farmington-Harrison in round one. They faced Dakota in the semi-final, but lost. They bowled against Oxford in the consolation match, and won, taking third place overall. Great job, bowlers!
Devin Guibord, Mark Martin, Bob Goldsmith, Dominik Maas, Michael Barlette, Zeph Goldstein and Riley Griffin bowled for Hartland, coached by Bryan Howes and Ted Ostapchuk. Captain Kyle Van Houten also coached and cheered on the team. Again, 10 baker games were thrown in the qualifying round and the top 16 moved on to bracket play. The Boys Team was seeded sixth, with an 1841 total pin count. They faced Walled Lake Central in round one. After the two baker games, the teams were tied, forcing a five frame roll-off. For this, only frames 6-10 would be bowled again, with the same five bowlers who had bowled those frames in the second game. This was a nail-biter, with strikes, opens and gutters thrown by each side, but Hartland came out on top. Next up was Westland John Glenn, who unfortunately ended Hartland’s run.
Great day, Hartland! And congratulations on an excellent season!
