Hartland Eagles Varsity Softball Wins Back-And-Forth Affair Against South Lyon
Hartland Eagles Varsity softball and South Lyon played a taut affair on Wednesday, but the Eagles eventually prevailed 9-8 after taking the lead for good in the sixth inning. The game was tied at eight with the Eagles batting in the bottom of the sixth when Alexis Bonk uncorked a wild pitch, scoring one run.
Hartland built a four-run lead in the first inning and then held off South Lyon’s charge. South Lyon scored six runs in the failed comeback on a double by Lena Monteith in the second, a single in the second, a error in the second, and a fielder’s choice by Chloe Grimes in the fourth.
South Lyon captured the lead in the first inning. An error scored one run for South Lyon.
In the top of the fourth inning, South Lyon tied things up at eight. Grimes hit into a fielder’s choice, scoring one run.
Madelin Skene earned the win for the Eagles. She went five and two-thirds innings, allowing one run, two hits, and striking out three. Alexis Bonk took the loss for South Lyon. She pitched six innings, giving up nine runs, 12 hits, and striking out nine.
Anna Kemp started the game for the Eagles. She went one and one-third innings, surrendering seven runs, four hits, and striking out one.
Hartland collected 12 hits. Delanie Grundman, Clare Minsker, Emma McIntyre, Skene, and Lauren Plasky each collected multiple hits for the Eagles. Plasky, Skene, McIntyre, Minsker, and Grundman all had two hits to lead the Eagles.
