Hartland’s Boy’s Varsity and Boy’s JV teams each took second place at the L’Anse Creuse Baker’s Dozen Tournament on Saturday, January 6th, at Imperial Lanes in Clinton Township. A Baker’s tournament consists of team baker games only, no individual games. Both Girls teams finished just out of the cut.
Twenty-three teams competed at each level. Teams bowled 13 baker games and the top 16 teams moved on to match play. Teams then had to win two of three bakers to continue in the bracket.
The Varsity team placed third in the qualifying round, with a total pin fall of 2667 over the thirteen games. They threw their highest game of the day during the qualifying round, a 243. In match play, they faced North Farmington first, then Utica, beating both in two games. In the semi-finals, they faced Dakota and needed all three games to move on, beating them in the third game by two pins. Clarkston was their final opponent and again, they bowled all three games but fell to Clarkston in the third by 10 pins. The team was very consistent and averaged an impressive 205 per game for the entire day.
The JV team placed fifth in the qualifying round, with a total pin fall of 2453. In match play, they met Clarkston first and knocked them out in two games. They needed all three games to put away Chippewa JVA next but also threw their high game of the day, a 235. In the semifinal round, they bowled against Farmington Harrison and needed all three games to move past them. Finally, they faced the home team, L’anse Creuse North JVA, in the final and again bowled all three games but ultimately took second place. The JV averaged 188 per game for the day.
Congratulations to both teams!
