The Hartland Bowling teams faced their first conference opponent of the season this week, a familiar foe named Brighton. The bowling season started out with five crossover matches in December. Over the remainder of the season, the teams will bowl the five KLAA conference teams.
The Varsity Boy’s team entered the New Year with a 2-3 record, getting off to a slow start with losses to Plymouth, Canton and Westland John Glenn in December. However, before the break, things began to turn around as the team defeated Wayne Memorial and Salem. On Tuesday, the momentum continued as Hartland beat Brighton, 27-3. The team took both bakers and seven of the ten individual games, with five different bowlers throwing 200+ games. Noah McClure had the high game with an outstanding 258, and Maverik Snider was hot on his heels with a 254. McClure had the high series with a 477.
The Varsity Girl’s team had a 2-3 record as well going into Tuesday’s match, having defeated Canton and Westland John Glenn during December. However, they fell to Brighton 25-5. They lost both bakers and split the individuals 5-5. Captains Michelle Thompson and Julia Conway led the team with 214 and 213 respectively. Thompson had high series with 382.
The Junior Varsity Boy’s team was undefeated before Tuesday’s match and remained that way after, handily defeating Brighton 27-3. Zeph Goldstein was on fire, striking 19 times. He had the high game with a 247 and the high series with 425.
The Junior Varsity Girl’s team had a record of 3-2 before Tuesday, having defeated Plymouth, Wayne Memorial and Salem in December. They took the Brighton match by default, 30-0. Brittany Salyers had the high game of 118, while Salyers and Mackenzie Moore each had a 217 high series.
