Hartland’s bowlers traveled to Battle Creek for the annual Battle of the Baker tournament at M66 Bowl on January 13th. It was the Varsity Girls’ turn to shine this year, as they took 3rd place. Congrats Coach Bob Brewer, Taylor Hutchinson, Captain Jess Callaghan, Morgan Maliszewski, Haley Hebel, and Natalie Fisher!
Hartland sent four teams to the tournament, and both Varsity and JV competed in the same bracket. The qualifying round consisted of twelve baker games and the top eight moved on to match play. Seventeen teams competed in the Division 1 Boys Bracket, and twelve teams competed in the Division 1 Girls bracket. The Varsity girls qualified as the fifth seed with a total of 1717 pins, an average of 143. Their high game of the day was a smokin’ 212.
Hartland faced off against Tecumseh in round one of match play. Hartland took the first game, 142-135. Tecumseh countered in game two, however, and won 138-111. Hartland fired up for game three and won the round 154-137, sending Tecumseh home.
In the semifinal round, Hartland took on Dakota, the eventual champion, and floundered a bit, losing two straight games. However, they rallied in the consolation match and beat challenger Pennfield in two straight games to take 3rd place. Great job, bowlers!!
