History was made on the slopes Friday as the Hartland Girls Varsity Boardercross team captured the 2026 State Championship, delivering a dominant performance that left no doubt who owned the mountain. Facing off against Howell, Milford, Pinckney, and Lakeland, the Eagles didn’t just win, they separated themselves from the field in commanding fashion, piling up points and finishing more than 100 points clear of the competition. It marks the first girls state championship for Hartland since Boardercross was introduced in 2012. The championship lineup of Mia Mills, Emma Mills, Kaiya Hernandez, Carley Johnson, and Kam Corbeau combined speed, precision, and composure across every heat. From the opening runs to the final gates, Hartland consistently put riders in scoring positions and never let momentum slip. Senior Mia Mills added to the historic night with a podium finish in the individual state competition. Racing in the Big Final, she battled through a photo finish to secure third place overall, capping her season with a statement performance on the biggest stage. Freshman Emma Mills followed with a dominant win in the Small Final, racing away from the field to claim fifth overall and announce her arrival as one of the state’s rising stars. Hartland’s depth showed throughout the individual bracket, which featured 40 of the top riders in Michigan. Carley Johnson powered her way to an 11th-place finish, while Jessica Hamilton claimed 13th, placing four Eagles among the state’s top competitors. On the boys side, Sawyer Henning and Jack Suski represented Hartland in a stacked field. Both battled through intense heats and advanced to the Last Chance Qualifier, narrowly missing further advancement after finishing second in their respective LCQ races. For Hartland, this was more than a win, it was a breakthrough. A program milestone. A championship secured through season-long consistency and clutch performances when it mattered most. The trophy now belongs to the Eagles, and soon it will bear their name, a permanent reminder of the team that set the standard and brought a state title home to Hartland.
