Hartland did not just win a state championship, they earned it the hard way. On Saturday, April 25, at the MiHSEF Spring 2026 State Championships hosted at the University of Michigan Flint, Hartland’s Rocket League duo of Dylan “Qyxical” Reinwand and Tavin “TRE4TY” Flanagan delivered a performance that will be remembered as one of the most electrifying runs in program history. The day started early, and the Eagles wasted no time making a statement. In group stage play, Hartland swept through Corunna, Melvindale, and Linden, going undefeated across nine games and outscoring opponents 56-8. The dominance earned them the #1 overall seed heading into the Elite Eight. From there, the bracket only got tougher. In the quarterfinals, Hartland faced a familiar opponent in Corunna. Any thought of a close rematch disappeared quickly as the Eagles overwhelmed the Cavaliers in a 3-0 sweep, outscoring them 27-2 and punching their ticket to the semifinals. That is where things turned. Matched up against Grand Rapids West Catholic, Hartland found itself in a battle. The two teams traded wins in a back-and-forth five-game series that pushed both squads to the limit. With everything on the line, the Eagles held their ground, surviving the Falcons in a decisive Game 5 to advance to the state title match. Waiting for them in the finals, the Wolverines of Godwin Heights. On the campus of the University of Michigan, it was a fitting matchup, and early on, Hartland looked unstoppable. The Eagles took Game 1 by a score of 3-1 and followed it with a commanding 5-1 win in Game 2, putting them firmly in control. But championships are never that simple. Trailing late in Game 3, Godwin Heights stormed back to steal a 4-3 victory, shifting the momentum. They carried that energy into Game 4, scoring in the closing seconds to even the series and force a decisive Game 5. What followed was unforgettable. Game 5 turned into a war, locked at 1-1 through regulation and into a two-minute sudden death overtime. Then, in a moment built for the spotlight, freshman Tavin “TRE4TY” Flanagan delivered. After making a clutch save on his own goal line, Flanagan took control of the ball, lifted into the air, and carried it coast to coast before pinching it around the final defender for the game-winning overtime goal. One play, end to end, season-defining. The Eagles had their moment, and they did not let it slip. Riding the momentum, Hartland closed out the series in Game 6 with a 3-1 victory, securing the state championship and completing a run defined by dominance, resilience, and clutch play. From a 56-8 start in group play to an overtime winner on the biggest stage, Reinwand and Flanagan proved they were the best in the state. What a tournament. What a finish. What a day for Hartland.
