The Hartland Eagles Baseball team capped off a historic season with a 5-3 victory against Dakota in the MHSAA State Championship. This was a great back and forth baseball game that had great pitching, timely hitting and key defensive plays. The Cougars struck early with 2 runs in the first but that didn't deter the Eagles as they clawed back with 2 of their own in the 3rd on an RBI double by Caden See and an RBI single by Mike Zielinski. Pitching was story from the 4th to the 7th as both teams battled out of some difficult spots. Logan Randall delivered a sac fly in the top of the 8th to put the Eagles up 3-2. The Eagles gave up a run in the 8th but got out of a bases loaded jam with a 5-2-3 double play. The Eagles broke through in the 9th with a Caden See single. Mike Zielinski followed suit with a single into right that was played and pushed the run across the plate. Roman Forcia scored Zielinski on a sac fly. Logan Randal came on in the bottom of the 9th for his 4th and final inning. He got the first 2 batters out before putting a runner on 1st, but on the next batter Ty Kraut made a tough play look routine and secured the 3rd out. Logan Randall was the winning pitcher for the team. It was 10 years and 1 day since the Eagles won their last championship. A game that also went extra innings. Coach Guenther said throughout the post-season when game after game was tight, "This is so us". Well this game epitomized that slogan while cementing this team as the 13th MHSAA team state champion in school history.
